The first show

The day after the night before

The morning after the first live broadcast the students were dragged out of bed early in the morning by Richard Park's voice booming into the bedrooms. Malachi whiffed his knickers to see whether he could risk wearing them again.

After breakfast they were played a video of their singing on the show. Carrie Grant's face was as long as could be. The students cringed as they listened.

Later on Ainslie said: "How could we sound that bad? We sucked." Quite.

A certain David Sneddon went back to Glasgow and watched the show on video. He later said: "I watched the first show and I thought it was rubbish."

The bookies' odds

The bookies showed their skill by reducing the odds on Marli winning Fame Academy from 10-1 to 5-1 following the first show.

Corals put Katie Lewis, Camilla Beeput and Pippa Fulton at 6-1, Lemar Obika at 7-1 and Sinead Quinn at 8-1.

Malachi Cush and Chris Manning were 10-1, followed by Naomi Roper on 14-1. Nigel Wilson, Ashley House and Ainslie Henderson trailed at 16-1.

They did not quote odds for David - and when he did enter the house the odds were 33-1.
