The guests at the wedding of the Prince Felipe and Letizia Ortiz included King Carlos Gustavo of Sweden, Princess Victoria and Princess Madeleine of Sweden, King Harald of Norway, Queen Rania and Queen Noor of Jordan, Queen Beatrice of the Netherlands and King Albert of Belgium.

World royalty also included Queen Margaret of Denmark, the Sultan of Brunei, Prince Salman ibn Abdel Aziz al Saud of Saudi Arabia, Prince Albert of Monaco, Prince Charles, Princess Caroline of Monaco and Crown Prince Naruhito of Japan.

Political leaders past and present included Nelson Mandela, the Spanish prime minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and his predecessors José María Aznar, Felipe González and Leopoldo Calvo Sotelo,.

The inviation list included most of the Spanish cabinet members, Juan José Ibarretxe and all the political leaders from the autonomous Spanish regions, Javier Solano, Vaclav Havel and the presidents of Portugal, Jorge Sampaio; Germany, Johannes Rau; Ireland, Mary MacAleese; Columbia, Álvaro Uribe; Ecuador, Edwin Lucio Gutiérrez and El Salvador, Francisco Flores.

The guest list included tennis players Juan Carlos Ferrero and Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, cyclist Miguel Induráin, golfer Severiano Ballesteros, Letizia's dress designer Manuel Pertegaz, Plácido Domingo, authors Mario Vargas Llosa and Carlos Fuentes, ex-president of the International Olympic Committee Juan Antonio Samaranch, astronaut Pedro Duque and IMF director general Rodrigo Rato.

The group also included TVE executive, Pedro Erquicia, who said he introduced the couple and Alfredo Urdaci, ex-director of news at TVE, with whom Letizia presented the evening TV news. Other journalists included Luis del Olmo, Pedro J Ramírez and Iñaki Gabilondo.

Letizia's father, Jesus Ortiz, is divorced from Paloma Rocasolano, Letizia’s mother, but the two sat side by side in the front row with Telma and Erica, Letizia’s sisters.
