The great Kate Middleton debateIt seems that the girlfriend of Prince William is causing a stir with her fashion sense or lack of it. Depending on what internet forum, glossy magazine or newspaper you read she is either stunning, looks manish, lacks style, has style by the bucket load, needs a stylist, has a stylist, has her own chic fashion sense or is copying a Hollywood actress or the odd dead princess. No one can forget the big fashion no-no with the hideous fur hat she wore to Cheltenham, which as one writer said was the same kind that Liz Hurley would wear. It’s a shame PETA and its bear only protest the Prince of Wales. The fact that nearly every tabloid you read has Kate labelled as “stunning” has people wondering if the writers are actually madly in love with the 24 year old. They blindly announce that “stunning” Kate stands by her equally gorgeous boyfriend while he plays polo or that the “leggy” brunette is seen at a bus stop, out shopping, walking in fashionable Chelsea, buying groceries, out shopping again (add whatever it is that makes her seem normal in the tabloids eyes), all the while looking fabulously “stunning” and showing the stuff that makes a perfect future princess. Well of course she is going to look good. With all of the shopping that she does if she didn’t we’d all be asking why bother? All this when the highly intelligent and fantastically shrewd (as the tabs would have us believe) university graduate works (apparently) at building her own children’s clothing business. It must be hard for Kate Middleton to live anything resembling a normal life when all she has to do is pick up a tabloid and read the next chapter in her life. It certainly makes for an exciting, yet confusing read. So far we have read that she is getting bodyguards, not eligible to get guards, starting her own children’s clothing line, meeting the Queen, not meeting the Queen, moving into a palatial home with her prince, moving into her own place without her prince, getting professional help with make-up and clothes, developing her own style and flair for fashion, watching videos of Diana and copying her, doesn’t want to be compared to Diana, being media trained by Clarence House (which by the way is a building and not a real person) and getting married next year or the year after. There are more headlines and eye catching stories, but my head’s in a spin just from those few. You can’t help but feel sorry for her, especially as she is now being compared to Liz Hurley.
