Zara Phillips Wins the World Individual Eventing Championship11th in the British Order of Succession and the Queen's eldest grand-daughter Zara Phillips, won the World Individual Eventing Championship yesterday. The 25-year-old got a huge hug from mum Princess Anne as she collected gold after her triumph at the World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany, on a horse called Toytown, whom she purchased in 1999. Toytown's leg injury in the winter of 2003, shattered Zara Phillips' hopes of competing in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. She is expected to compete in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, emulating her mother who competed in the 1976 Montreal Olympics. She won the individual European Eventing Championship title in 2005 at Blenheim Palace with Toytown. In November 2005, Phillips won the Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year award. Could she follow her mother's footsteps and become BBC sportswoman of the year? |
