State Visits by the Queen to the Baltic States

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that Queen Elizabeth II accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh will pay an official State Visit to the three Baltic states of: Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in October 2006.

This will be the first time that The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh have visited these countries.

The State Visit is seen by many in the Baltic as a celebration of the excellent bilateral relations, past and present, between the United Kingdom and the three countries in the Baltic. All of which joined the European Union in 2004.

A statement released by the British Embassy in Tallinn read: “Her Majesty is delighted at the chance of visiting the Baltic and hopes that she will be able to see as much as possible during her visit to the region."

Although the date for the State Visit has been published, the details are yet to be finalised. But many hope that the State Visit will give The Queen a real opportunity to see a range of aspects in the Baltic and that it gives The Queen a clear picture of the many areas of co-operation between the United Kingdom and countries in the region.

The Queen will visit Lithuania from 17th to 18th October, Latvia from 18th to 19th October and Estonia from 19th to 20th October.
