Princess Royal visits troops in AfghanistanHer Royal Highness the Princess Anne, the Princess Royal has just returned from a two day visit to her associated units and Regiments in Afghanistan. The Princess was accompanied by her husband, Rear Admiral Timothy Laurence. Her first engagement in Afghanistan was to visit the headquarters of NATO in the capital city, Kabul. While there, Her Royal Highness met several members of NATO and senior officers of the British Armed Forces in Afghanistan. Princess Anne later visited Kandahar airfield and Camp Bastion in the southern province of Helmand, where over 4,200 British troops are deployed. Throughout her visit Her Royal Highness met personnel from several of her units and regiments including the Royal Signals, the Royal Logistic Corps and the Blues and Royals. A senior British officer in Afghanistan, Brigadier Ed Butler said that he was “delighted that the Princess Royal was able to see the troops in Afghanistan.” Her visit to Afghanistan makes it the first time a member of the British Royal Family has paid a visit to British troops in Afghanistan. While in Afghanistan, the Princess Royal was also able to inspect the progress of one of her 200 charities, the Save the Children charity. Pictures are available Here |
