October, 2006 Royals who made the news in October...

We received unofficial news that Prince William was turning his back on a prolonged career in the army, preferring to take over from Prince Philip as the Ranger of Windsor Great Park. In other stories, Prince William was seen for the 1st time wearing glasses and we learnt that he is set to become a member of the Order of the Garter.

Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II paid her first ever State Visit to the Baltic States of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. The purpose of her visit was to foster closer relations between the United Kingdom and the Baltic nations.

October also saw the 1st birthday of little Prince Christan of Denmark. There was confirmation that his mother, Crown Princess Mary was pregnant.

The Royal Forum was also in the media spotlight (just for a nano second) after the Sunday Express published an article highlighting the forum's debate in the thread "The Great Kate Job Debate".

The Princess of Asturias came under fire from some quarters for announcing her pregnancy early and outside the confines of royal protocol.

Chelsy Davy celebrated her 21st birthday and along side her at the glitzy event in Cape Town was none other than Prince Harry, new Troop Commander. It was at this time we also received unconfirmed reports that Chelsy gained a place at Bristol University in the UK to study Politics.

Even though 65% of Spaniards are content with the Spanish Monarchy, not all were pleased with the news that King Juan Carlos had shot and killed a bear that had allegedly been fed honey-laced vodka to slow its reactions.

Prince Charles became the focus of praise and criticism when he was urged to cancel his trip to Pakistan over a row concerning the execution of British national in the Muslim state. Even his coronation and Duchy finances were in the spotlight in October.

The Duke of Edinburgh impressed all when the 83 year old visited British troops in Basra to offer his support. He also stepped in to replace the Queen when a reoccurring back problem hampered her in completing her official duties.
