Combat Willy loses his gunPrince William has become the laughing stock of Sandhurst after losing a weapon assigned to him. Senior officers have given the future king a right royal dressing down after Wills owned up to the fact that he had lost his L86 Light Support Weapon on Friday morning. Wills was so worried about it all, that he borrowed a friends bike and rode for over two hours searching for the gun, to no avail. The weapon was later handed in by a fellow recruit but not before Wills was given a blast from Sandhurst officials. This Is London quoted a source who said "William was due to spend a day on the ranges in preparation for a major exercise in Wales this week. He was given his SA80 rifle, the weapon that is personally assigned to him throughout his time at Sandhurst, but also signed out an LSW as he needed to ensure he was fully familiarised with it. "All of the cadets, including the prince, were given a full briefing first thing in the morning but it seems that he mislaid it sometime after that. William was really panicking as he knew he was in serious trouble." Fortunately for Prince William, there was no live ammunition in the rifle, which can shoot up to 775 rounds per minute. Although Wills did lose the gun, it was another cadet who is to blame, according to army officials. A Sandhurst spokesperson said "In fact Officer Cadet Wales's weapon was picked up and used by another cadet who handed it back a couple of hours later, so it wasn't really missing at all." Prince William was said to be in line to win the Sword of Honour but because of the seriousness of this incident, it now looks like Wills might miss out on this. Wills is due to passout from Sandhurst in a few weeks. |
