Royal visit to the Falkland IslandsBuckingham Palace has announced that Princess Anne, the Princess Royal is to visit the Falkland Islands between 12 and 15 January 2007. While in the Falklands, Her Royal Highness will meet members of the British Armed Forces currently deployed in the region as well as attend several events to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Falklands war. Her Royal Highness while in the South Atlantic will take the opportunity to visit the British Antarctic Territory later this month as well as pay an official visit to the Republic of Chile. Programme of engagements: ----------------------------------------------- Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal accompanied by her husband Rear Admiral Timothy Laurence will visit members of the British Armed Forces currently based in Mount Pleasant and the crew of HMS Dumbarton Castle, the Offshore Patrol Vessel is currently on patrol off the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic. The Princess Royal will then lay a wreath at the Royal Fleet Auxiliary and Welsh Guards Memorials. ----------------------------------------------- Her Royal Highness will travel to Hill Cove in West Falkland where she will meet local residents. The Princess, while in West Falkland will visit a penguin and albatross colonies in Sounders Island. Later, Her Royal Highness accompanied by her husband Rear Admiral Timothy Laurence will attend a reception hosted by the Government of the Falkland Islands in Stanley’s Town Hall. ----------------------------------------------- The Princess Royal will lay a wreath at the Liberation Monument before attending a church service and youth reception at Christ Church Cathedral, in Stanley - the world's most southerly Anglican Cathedral. In the afternoon, the Princess Royal will tour the Fishery Patrol Vessel Pharos- a 80-metre ship, built in 1993. Her Royal Highness will then attend a lunch at the Lighthouse Seamen’s Centre. Later, the Princess will met representatives from the Falklands Chamber of Commerce, the Falklands Tourist Board and Falklands Conservation. ----------------------------------------------- Her Royal Highness accompanied by her husband Rear Admiral Timothy Laurence will depart for the British Antarctic Territory.
