Royal journalists embarrassed by Wills/Kate breakup

This past week has seen many veteran royal journalists eating their words. Far from predicting the breakup of William and Kate's relationship, most wrote about an impending engagement. The latest to be publicly embarrassed is former Royal Editor of the BBC, Jennie Bond.

Ms Bond has been left red faced after an article she wrote was published this week. It was called: "William in Love".

The article, which was supposed to be a royal romance exclusive, spoke of William and Kate's relationship surviving under huge pressures. The Mirror quoted Bond's article: "William and Kate; Kate and William. These days, it hardly seems possible to mention one without the other. One thing's for sure: if they do marry, it'll be a massive, global event.

"Friends say Kate is a calm, self-assured girl who is willing to wait until her man feels ready for the big step of marriage."

Bond tried to explain why the article was published: "It was commissioned six or eight weeks ago and it was too late to be pulled.

"In common with many other people six or eight weeks ago, we all thought the same thing." Not everyone thought that. Just a few weeks ago, veteran royal correspondent James Whittaker spoke of his doubt over the pairing, one of the few who can now say they told us so.

Christopher Wilson is not one of those. Earlier this year, Wilson wrote that William and Kate were: “in effect man and wife already, it’s a done deal”. Wilson - obviously shamed by this - instead of admitting he was wrong, launched into a harsh attack on Prince William saying the prince was:"selfish, self-centred and careless of history”.

Meanwhile royal fans continue to ask questions about Robert Jobson's book 'William's Princess: The True Story of the Romance that will Change the Monarchy'.

In the book Jobson made claims that Kate was considered "potential marriage material". Jobson said: "It's quite clear that she's introduced her parents to the queen, that she's met the queen on a number of occasions, that Prince Charles and the queen approve of Kate Middleton, that she is seen as very much part of 'The Firm.'

"Kate clearly is on a different level from Prince Harry's girlfriend, Chelsea," Quite! Chelsy Davy is still with her boyfriend of 3 years, therefore obviously making her on a different level to Kate Middleton.

One royal fan on the forum asked, very tongue in cheek: "Wow. What will happen to Jobson's William's Princess? Can we get copies CHEAP now on Amazon?" A quick look on Amazon shows the book, which was listed intially for $24.95 has been slashed to $16.47. Give it another 2 weeks and we're sure you'll get it for less.
