Before beginning his latest round Army duties Prince Harry and Chelsy Davy were able to spend some much needed catching up over the weekend after the Concert for Diana. The couple left London for Gloucestershire where Harry has spent much time at his father's farm Highgrove and on the polo fields and where Chelsy was educated at Cheltenham Ladies College. The couple went almost unnoticed as they spent Friday and Saturday night at two of Gloucestershire's nightspots. But once they were noticed they caused a bit of a stir!
On Friday they were spotted at The Retreat in Suffolk Parade where they enjoyed cocktails and a bit of singing. Manager Iain Groom said the couple and a few friends arrived at The Retreat at 10pm and stayed until midnight. "We weren't expecting them at all. It was quite funny because they were standing at the part of the bar where a lot of people tend to congregate and it's difficult to get by.
"I was trying to get through and this chap was in the way and I pushed past him. It was only when I got to the bar and spoke to some of the staff they said Prince Harry was in, I realised it had been him.
"He was wearing a baseball cap and was chatting away to friends. He seemed nice and relaxed. I didn't see any security with him, although I'm sure they were there. They must have been discreet."
Although The Retreat is used to serving familiar faces the presence of the Prince was on everybodies lips according to Mr Groom. "It created a real buzz about the place. A couple of my regulars went up to say hello to him, but he took it all in his stride. We get a lot of England rugby players coming in and sometimes I see people and don't realise immediately who they are although I know the face.
"Quite a few of the Cheltenham College pupils come here. I think Chelsy's been before, but never with Prince Harry. They were drinking a jug of one of our popular kamikaze cocktails, although he never actually came to the bar to order them himself. He wasn't drinking excessively or anything like that. They had a bit of a sing-song at one point but that's it. I'd welcome him back anytime."
On Saturday they hit the dance floor at Twenty 4 Seven in Crescent Terrace before heading to O'Neill's in Montpellier.
Also at Twenty 4 Seven was Rachael Harrison who spotted the couple seated in a corner with friends. She said, "They didn't stick out like sore thumbs, but as soon as we got there we heard whispers they were around.
"I saw Harry drinking in a quiet corner. He was wearing dark jeans and a white shirt. He looked like he was talking intensely with Chelsy. She looked good in a pair of white jeans and a vest top, but no one seemed to be bothering them."
