Channel 4 paid Trevor Phillips after Shilpa Shetty racism scandalTrevor Philips, who is paid £110,000 to run the government's equality and race quango, the Equality and Human Rights Commission, was paid by Channel 4 for giving advice to the TV channel following the Big Brother Shilpa Shetty racism scandal in 2007. Phillips' quango runs through £22 million of public money each year. But it was Phillips who collected the money not for the quango but the Equate Organisation, which he co-founded, and in which he owns 70% of the shares. Previous heads of the Commission for Racial Equality, the quango which was folded into the new outfit, suffered from a series of directors who quietly left after news of their activities or their comments were made public. |
