Queen Elizabeth II has approved the appointments of several members of the British Royal Family to key Royal Air Force commands. These appointments are honorary appointments and do not confer on the individuals any rank within the service as such.

Prince William has been appointed Honorary Air Commandant of RAF Coningsby while Prince Harry has been appointed Honorary Air Commandant of RAF Honington. Other members of the Royal Family have also been given new appointments in the Royal Air Force, including the Duchess of Cornwall and the Earl and Countess of Wessex.

Royal Appointments to the Royal Air Force help to further strengthen the Monarchy’s link with the service.

Below is the full list of Royal Air Force appointments approved by the Queen.

- H.R.H. Prince William
Honorary Air Commandant Royal Air Force Coningsby.
- H.R.H. Prince Harry
Honorary Air Commandant Royal Air Force Honington.
- H.R.H. The Duchess of Cornwall

The Prince who learned to fly earlier this year will commence his training to become an operational Sea King helicopter pilot in early 2009.
