The Queen’s 80th birthday reception and lunch

Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh have hosted a reception and lunch at Buckingham Palace for 99 people who celebrate their 80th birthday on the same day as The Queen.

During a speech, the Queen said, “On this special occasion I believe we can and should count our blessings”

“I doubt whether any of us would say that the last eighty years has been plain sailing, but we can give thanks for our health and happiness, the support we receive from our families and friends, some wonderful memories, and the excitement that each new day brings.”

Later the Queen added, “I hope all those of you who are my exact twins will make the most of our special day on Friday.”
