Leeds Uni moves to protect Chelsy's privacyThe University of Leeds has banned its student-run newspaper "Leeds Student" from publishing articles about Prince Harry's girlfriend Chelsy Davy. The university made the move after the paper was set to run an article about a prank Facebook group titled, 'By the End of the Year I Want to Sniff Chelsy's Hair' set up by an unnamed Leeds student who was later asked to take down the page. This is the second attempt the University of Leeds has made to protect the privacy of Chelsy Davy. In late September the university banned all paparazzi from it's campus after Chelsy found herself being constantly followed to her classes. Although its been reported in the past that Chelsy found the occasionally intrusive attention from students at Cape Town University upsetting, friends say that Chelsy did not ask the University to intervene over the newspaper's planned article and would not have minded the student's prank Facebook group. Said the friend, "Chelsy's really normal and just tries to fit in. Things like this are just going to single her out." Meanwhile the students who run the Leeds Student newspaper are annoyed to have been told not to run the article. Said one, "We heard about the prank but they banned us writing about it. Then they banned any mention of Chelsy. A student paper should have free speech." Founded in 1970 Leeds Student has been recognized as one of the UK's best student newspapers and has won a number of student media awards. A university spokesman declined to comment. |
