Kate Middleton's privacy scare

Australian magazine Woman's Day is reporting that Kate Middleton and Prince William had a "pregnancy scare" some weeks ago according to an unnamed palace source. Said the source, 'the panic started a few weeks ago, when Kate told Wills that she thought she was pregnant. William was left speechless. They're always very responsible and this shouldn't have happened.'

The article goes on to say that, "after weeks of worrying about their future, William and Kate learnt that the pregnancy concerns were ill-founded and it was just a scare."

So far most are dismissing the story as fantasy. Whether it is true or not this article comes as a shock to many royal watchers; not just for its content but also for the fact that it was written at all. Having been in the public eye for over half a decade there is little left about Kate Middleton that is truly private. But to report on a pregnancy, real or imagined, smacks of a complete disregard of her privacy. So far there has been no comment from either Clarence House or Kate Middleton, though, having gone to the Press Complaints Commission over being followed by paparazzi some years ago, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if Kate decided to take action against the paper for printing the story. Nor would I blame her.

Most worrying perhaps is from whom Woman's Day (assuming they didn't make it up entirely) received their information. Doctors are supposed to keep complete patient confidentiality but some public figures have found that is not always the case. There has long been talk of a leak near Kate Middleton as well as rumors of courtiers briefing the press against her.

The couple's relationship was recently said to have been under strain after William's announcement that he would be continuing with the RAF as a rescue pilot. It has since been reported that the couple have reconciled and will remain dating.
