Cameron Mackintosh's search for the perfect Nancy came to a dramatic conclusion tonight

The first part of the final "I'd Do Anything" to find a new Nancy for the West End left and the pressure was really showing on the girls.

Semi-final night for the four remaining Nancys tonight and the pressure is really building.

The pressure is really building now as tonight five Nancys became four. It already seems really odd to see so few of them performing the opening number.

"A night of controversy" said Graham Norton, and he's not too far off.

Performance-wise we saw one of the worst shows this week with the girls singing 'modern pop classics', with the exception of Ashley who had 'Evergreen', and the bottom 2 really was hard to call.

We are now down to eight Nancys and the competition is stronger than ever with still no clear leader - unlike the predecessors of these shows.

A bit of a shock result tonight - Andrew Lloyd Webber made what he described as the hardest call he has had so far and sent Francesca home.

If it’s this hard to predict the bottom two now, how’s it going to be in a couple of weeks time?

Tonight Welsh girl Tara Bethan became the latest casualty of Cameron Mackintosh's search for a new Nancy for his forthcoming production of "Oliver!"
