Ministry of Defense admits error in judgment when authorizing Prince William's training flightsThe Ministry of Defense has apologized today for allowing Prince William to misuse a Chinook helicopter, not once, not twice… but FIVE times. Over the course of his flight training, Prince William was authorized to fly a Chinook to his cousin Peter Phillips’ stag party on the Isle of Wight; to practice take offs and landings on property owned by Kate Middleton’s family; to fly himself to Northumberland for a wedding; and to fly over Sandringham and Charles’ estate in Highgrove. While the Royal Air Force defended William at first, calling these "essential training sorties" they have since owned up to their error in judgment. A Ministry spokesman has stated, "It was clear on occasions that those involved failed to appreciate how the media and public would perceive these flights and in retrospect there was a degree of naivety in the planning of these sorties. "However these media stories should not detract from what was an extremely successful and valuable attachment to the RAF. "Flying Officer Wales displayed a natural flying ability and was able to gain valuable insight into the roles and capabilities of a modern Air Force." Prince William has also allegedly acknowledged the misjudgment. While no official statement has been released, a Clarence House source told the Daily Mail "It was a collective error of judgment and William is holding his hands up for it as much as the RAF. "He's very keen to see the pilots who taught him don't get the blame for it all, as they were only trying to help him." |
