Who's picking up the bill?Well, the sums have been tallied and the results published - Prince William's flight training during his short time with the Royal Air Force cost the taxpayer upwards of £50,000. In April of this year, a Ministry of Defense spokesman has stated, "It was clear on occasions that those involved failed to appreciate how the media and public would perceive these flights and in retrospect there was a degree of naivety in the planning of these sorties" regarding five training flights that William undertook while with the RAF. During these flights, he flew a Chinook to his cousin Peter Phillips’ stag party on the Isle of Wight; practiced take offs and landings on property owned by Kate Middleton’s family; flew himself to Northumberland for a wedding; and did fly-by's over over Sandringham and Charles’ estate in Highgrove. These sorties served as part of William's training with the RAF and helped him qualify for his RAF Wings, which he received in April. |
