Rowetta on This Morning - transcript
Lorraine: Rowetta was voted off, she’s here now along with judge Louis Walsh, Simon Cowell’s stylist Sinitta and of course Sharon Osbourne’s nephew Terry Longden. Rowetta, see just before there (in the clip), you said ‘Sorry Mum’, did you know (you were leaving)…?
Rowetta: Yeah.
Lorraine: You did, in your heart?
Rowetta: Yeah. It was only me and Steve left there and I know Steve’s the favourite so I did expect to go, because all the women had been getting voted off each week. I didn’t like in the results bit where they made me go on last instead of first, I thought that was a bit unfair. And I’d been first in the show, so I just thought; it’s all geared for me to go. So I just prepared myself; did my best.
Lorraine: It’s so, so tough, especially at this stage in the competition.
Rowetta: Yeah of course. Everyone’s great now, and everyone is so different.
Phillip: Don’t yourself down, you were brilliant as well.
Rowetta: Thank you.
Phillip: You very much deserved your place on there. Standing in the audience, which was great for me, it was a fantastic atmosphere. The place was jumping on Saturday night. I was there with the family, watching you very carefully, having to be dragged back onto that stage.
Clip of Phillip clapping and whistling
Phillip: Whistling! How common is that? So you had to be dragged back on by pretty much everyone. I have to say Simon tried you once and then stepped back, it was like he didn’t know quite how to react to the situation.
Rowetta: I find the results show, every week, I find it really hard. I can’t really remember much of it.
Phillip: Did you want to walk?
Rowetta: No.
Phillip: Why did they have to hold you onto the stage then? Where were you off to?
Rowetta: I just thought they’ve had enough TV entertainment from me, again I keep being told I’m too emotional, I didn’t want to stand there crying. All the other bands, they cry, Jonathan cries a lot of the weeks when he’s stood, but I’m told I’m too emotional when I do it, but I just miss my son a lot.
Lorraine: And you do put your heart and soul into it, you do give 10%
Rowetta: Yeah I do, and some people, I annoy them and stuff, and I just be myself all the time.
Phillip: And if Louis is to believed, in today’s newspaper, that you were rushing off to your scotch I’ll read a little bit of it here, it says ‘Louis who looks after the X-Factor finalists says, “It almost looks like she’s on medication, but it’s actually called alcohol”.’
Rowetta: No, I did bring a bottle to the studio for after the show, because they don’t sell whisky, I don’t drink wine and beer.
Terry: I was gagging for a vodka afterwards, but they don’t sell it.
Lorraine: And you don’t get it?
Terry: No. I have to have a Rose.
Phillip: Did you say this, Louis?
Louis: I told somebody, but I didn’t tell The Sun.
Phillip: So you do think that Rowetta is drinking before, do you?
Louis: Just drinking after the show.
Phillip: Well after the show is different, that’s a whole different ball game.
Rowetta: Him and Sharon went through my bags the week before, picking stuff out, and that’s when they said ‘Oh, look it’s a bottle’ and that was after the show.
Louis: It was an empty bottle.
Lorraine: I think you’re entitled to a wee drink after the trauma.
Rowetta: So do I.
Louis: You know what, she was great on Saturday, it her best performance yet, we were really, really sad to see her go, she’s the life and soul of the party.
Phillip: Did you go out on a bender after the show?
Rowetta: Not on a bender, I went out with Kelly Osbourne for a couple of hours, then I went to a party, they were doing an X-Factor party for me, some of my friends. So that’s why I missed the press conference yesterday morning, because I was drinking, because I’m 38, I’m allowed to have a drink when I want one and it was the end of the show for me.
Terry: Of course you are, girl.
Louis: We’re really gonna miss her, really gonna miss her.
Rowetta: Too much work on a Saturday.
Louis: Well, Rowetta, we’re really gonna miss you.
Rowetta: Well I won’t miss you, Louis.
Phillip: What are you feeling about it now? What are the great positives? What are the positives about your time in the X-Factor?
Rowetta: It’s certainly given me more confidence, and people, whether they like me or not, they’ve heard me sing now, which was what I wanted.
Lorraine: What can you do from this now, Rowetta? Because Simon Cowell has said all along that only the winner will get the record contract.
Rowetta: I know.
Lorraine: But do you have a plan?
Rowetta: I’ve got a manager now.
Terry: She’s gonna be the new Trisha.
Lorraine: That’s not a bad idea.
Rowetta: I’d have to be a guest as well as the host.
Lorraine: Well that’s alright, that’s fine.
Sinitta: Well can you imagine Ant and Dec, like the Morecambe and Wise show, with her doing the Shirley Bassey. Rowetta: I just want to sing. I hope I get a record deal.
Philip: What are the negatives of the X-Factor?
Rowetta: Everybody thinking I’m a loony, my ex-husband coming out of the woodwork wasn’t nice, the press is a bit bad, but it’s worth it.
Phillip: What about the relationship between the people in the studio and the team here? How has that been?
Rowetta: It’s a bit childish between these lot…but …
Lorraine: You’re not the only one to say that, a lot of people have said it.
Rowetta: I get on with all the teams to be honest and Sinitta has been brilliant, and Annie, and Simon. But… um… I can’t remember what the question was.
Lorraine: I have to say, you look absolutely brilliant, you’ve really toned up, and you’ve lost a bit of weight as well, and you’re whole style, you say it’s given you a whole load of confidence and it must be the whole sort of package that’s helped.
Rowetta: I would love to see what I’m like after this competition, because I’m just focused on the Saturday every week. I haven’t really thought about anything else or how I’ve looked. I’ve let Sinitta just sort me out a look. I don’t care about that sort of stuff as much.
Phillip: How was your mum afterwards?
Rowetta: She was fine, upset I think. My grandma was very upset, but very proud as well.
Lorraine: No that’s baddy, last four for goodness sake.
Rowetta: Last woman as well.
Lorraine: Who do you think is gonna go off with the title. Who do you think is going to win?
Rowetta: Steve or Tabby, no offence to G4. I know Steve is a favourite; he has got a brilliant voice. Tabby is obviously my favourite, because he’s my best friend and I think he’s what the X-Factor should be about.
Phillip: You’re not supposed to be getting on with Steve.
Rowetta: We’ve been getting on really well in the past few of weeks. We clashed a couple of times, had a couple of arguments and it just got blown up. But he was really supportive at the end of the show. But Tabby’s just… I’ll vote for Tabby, he’s my best friend and he’s just brilliant.
Phillip: Steve had a problem with the sound on Saturday, and what a terrifying moment this is for any performer.
Clip of Steve on Saturday singing ‘Sweetest Feeling.’
Lorraine: You know what, he did well.
Sinitta: He couldn’t hear the fold-back, and you could see it sort of haunted him for the rest of the evening. Every track he came on, you could see him thinking ‘Am I going to hear it this time?’
Lorraine: What a shame.
Rowetta: It’s really difficult in the beginning, even to hear the first note; I did it with Somewhere I found it hard. Tabby did it.
Sinitta: And the pitching problems people are talking about it at the start of each number. You can’t hear in the studio, it’s so loud with everyone screaming and everything.
Phillip: And also there’s so much riding on it as well. And Tabby, a good night for Tabby
Terry: A very good night. We were so surprised, because he’d been so nervous all day. And plus he’d that real bad press about him in The Mail, which was awful, total lies. I was so proud of him because he really pulled through. And I’m so pleased because people actually voted for him this week, because he’s still not safe, and people shouldn’t think that he’s going to get through because he’s popular, he needs those votes more than ever.
Phillip: And G4 of course.
Louis: I thought G4 were really good, their Queen number.
Lorraine: They were really good, and there was a wee bit of choreography there.
Phillip: Jonathon’s throat?
Louis: Jonathon’s throat is fine now, he did have a few problems with it in the week, but he’s fine now.
Terry: And his mum?
Louis: His mum is fine
Phillip: Well his mum had a cold didn’t she? And on Saturday night, we were like ‘Oh my god, his mum’s not well’ and it was a nightmare and he was in tears and she just had a cold.
Louis: She’s OK now.
Lorraine: Isn’t it…. Oooh, I don’t like… you’ve all get a person in the final, each judge has got one act. Nothing to be read into that at all?
Terry: What are you implying, Lorraine?
Lorraine: Well it’s all a bit convenient, don’t you think?
Louis: 3 totally different acts. I think G4 are fantastic.
Sinitta: Well so many people have been coming up to me and saying, ‘I can’t beleve Rowetta was voted out. What happened? We loved her so much,’ ‘Well did you vote?’ ‘No, I didn’t vote.’
Lorraine: You have to vote.
Phillip: There’s no doubt that it’s exciting, it’s keeping everyone interested. Is it coming back?
Louis: It’s coming back next year, it’s audition next year.
Phillip: Have you been asked?
Louis: If I’m asked.
Phillip: Have you been asked?
Louis: No, not yet.
Phillip: Has Sharon been asked yet?
Terry: I think she would…
Phillip: If the money’s right.
Terry: No. If the acts are right really. She’s struck so lucky with Tabby.
Louis: It’s commissioned. It’s definitely commissioned.
Sinitta: Remember if you want to see Rowetta and any of the acts again, you’ve got to come to the tour next year.
Louis: The 15th of February it starts. And there’s also a DVD out for Christmas.
Phillip: We wish you the best of luck, Rowetta.
